DmC: Devil May Cry First Impressions

Well, today I started playing DmC: Devil May Cry and I must say... it's fucking awesome. I've heard all the anger towards it, but fuck all that. This is my first impressions. Being a long time fan of the games, graphic novels, and anime, I went in to this knowing it would be different; knowing it would change it's way. This is fine because it's a reboot and reboots take a new path, more often than not.

Graphics are really great. I love how everything looks and, even tho we only get 30fps on the ps3 (I don't give a shit, by the way) it runs smoothly and I haven't had any issues with it at all. The scenery is incredible! All the backdrops and environment are quite a treat to see. Character models are believable and I have no issues with the movements or the way it interacts with each other, animation wise. The music is amazing... Combichrist? Yes please!

The combat is different and the same, if that makes sense. It's the same basic principles and combos are chained in the same way, but it seems to be a little easier to pull off, which is great actually, especially since my hands are all fucked up anyway with nerve damage and arthritis. But, that being said, it maintains the same feel and visceral butchering and gun play that I'm used to in a Devil May Cry title. Combat is great and I love how it feels.

The story, so far, is fast paced. It's moving along quickly, but even though that's happening, it feels like everything is being more, or less, explained. It's not the best story ever, but it's still intriguing so far. I'm curious about it and looking forward to things being explained more.

First impressions are good... great even. I chained my combos almost four hours, pushing my hands to their limit and now I am cripplingly typing up this first impressions before I put ice packs on my hands and watch Twitch until they stop hurting. DmC: Devil May Cry... amazing.
