Some Gaming News

So far, this week has been a good gaming week!. Not only was I able to play some PC games due to my new graphics card arriving on Monday, but I was gifted a beautiful bronze (dark brown) DSi XL from a friend of mine in China as a belated birthday present. Whereas I am a little sad that the DSi XL doesn't have a GBA slot (this is mostly due to my love of Pokémon), it's not like I can't still use my DSLite for that, so it's not a big loss.

I'll comment briefly on my DSi XL... it's gorgeous! Only a few days ago I was really starting to get a lot of headaches from my overuse of the DSLite (I recently got a few new games I've been power-playing on it) & it's small screen. It seems like a blessed mind-reading miracle that I was gifted this when I was. The new screen is massive, comparatively, & I am once again enjoying my DS games to the max. I thought there'd be a little stretching or such as the games compensated for the new size, but so far all my games are perfect so I am pleased.
The online capabilities are fantastic, the weight is a wonderful distribution & not a problem at all. I was also glad to see they kept the smaller, slip-in stylus as the huge one is a bit cumbersome & I'm not too keen on using it. I'm very happy the power button is in the new place as I hold my DS at the top, so occasionally I would slip the power off & cry into my tea at all the Pokémon I lost or Objections I had proclaimed.

Also it came pro-loaded with Brain Training so I thought why not.. I had played a previous one, but got annoyed at it... being pre-loaded I couldn't really avoid it. Apparently my brain is now 24 years old, compared to my actual age of 29. That's... good? Well, on to the games.

I played a lot of Pokémon, in particular Diamond & SoulSilver... racking up a lot of Pokémon I was still missing & making some progress through Mt. Silver in SoulSilver. Also, finished up Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth & will start on Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney later today in my replay backwards of them. Another great opening the DSi XL gave me was my passion for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor again. I had stopped playing it due to the small screen beginning to weigh on my eyes, but now that I have this new massive screen I pulled the game out & made significant progress in it! Last, but certainly not least, I finished Final Fantasy II & although it's a PsP game, I am putting it here because it opened my path to Final Fantasy III which is a DS game. I will start that tomorrow as I have a lot on my plate today.

Speaking of PsP games, Final Fantasy II was about the only thing, besides Crisis Core, that I have played on the PsP; there's just so much going on that I had to set the PsP aside with the PS2 & Wii for a week or so while I get some of the other games cleared out.

I was so happy to be able to jump back into my MMO's again, with my new card, & they stunned me to cloud nine! WoW didn't really look too much different, a little shinier maybe, but Age of Conan... WOW. The difference was incredible. I couldn't believe what having 1gig on your gfx card could do. Everything is more. Just more! All aspects! I was so thrilled that I forgot the time & managed to get my necro to level 50! I grabbed her level 50 Medallion quest & ran to do it, still high from the glory of being able to play again... & got my arse handed to me four times! I think I'll have to find a team for this one... It's on Set server in case anyone has a 50+ who wants to help :P Name is Eiren!
I also reinstalled a tonne of my Steam games & played through some of them, marvelling at why I chose to get some games on the PC again... the graphics in Prince of Persia 2008, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, The Path, just to name a few... so incredible.

Finally, I have been playing a whole lot of Puzzle Quest 2 from XBLA. I had such high expectations on this game, it's only fitting I get most of them dashed. I'm not saying it's a bad game. It's a good game! It's just not what I expected or really wanted. They souped up the graphics, which they didn't need & shouldn't have done. It gave it a sort of 16 bit feel to it that I didn't really want. The first Puzzle Quest was perfection! That's what they should have kept it like. Just like that with a new story & puzzles. Now, I realise I am also one of the very, very few who loved Galactrix, but even that I would have been fine with. The way they tried to upgrade PQ2 just seems like they were trying to straighten the leaning Tower of Pisa. It's fine, don't fuck with it!
Other than that, I played some Left 4 Dead 2 & I have Borderlands coming in this week at some time. I know I called it shit & stuffed it in a body-bag for the PC, but now that it's been out a while, & also I know the 360 has a better community for it, I will give it another go. Not on the PC no, but, as I said, the 360. We'll see how things go! A lot of my friends still enjoy it though on the 360, so there's some hope!
